Shimla, May 8
A two-day international conference focusing on the future direction of the Indian economy in the evolving global economic order commenced on Friday in Shimla under the joint collaboration of Kotshhera College, Shimla, and Desh Bhagat University, Mandi Gobindgarh, Punjab.
The conference, themed “Direction of the Indian Economy in the New Global Economic Order,” was inaugurated by Himachal Pradesh University Vice Chancellor Professor Mahavir Singh, who described the event as highly significant in the current global scenario.
Addressing participants, Professor Mahavir Singh said India is steadily progressing towards becoming a developed nation by 2047 and stressed that achieving this vision would require collective efforts from all sections of society. He said the conference would provide a platform for experts to deliberate on global economic challenges, environmental concerns, technological advancements, and policy planning aimed at strengthening India’s economy.
The event has brought together economists, researchers, academicians, and scholars from India and abroad to discuss the opportunities and challenges facing the Indian economy amid changing global economic conditions.
Professor Sachin Sharma, Director General of RIS (Research and Information System for Developing Countries), delivered the keynote address at the conference and shared insights on emerging economic challenges. He said global financial conditions have changed rapidly over the past year, creating new economic pressures worldwide, including for India.
However, he noted that India’s strong focus on infrastructure development is expected to deliver long-term economic benefits and could help the country emerge as the world’s third-largest economy in the coming years.
During the conference, Kotshhera College Principal Gopal Chauhan, Professor Nandan Non from JNU Delhi University, and Desh Bhagat University Vice Chancellor Harsh Sadawarti also shared their views on the changing global economic landscape and India’s future growth prospects.
