Manali , May 8
The political atmosphere in Manali intensified on Friday as nomination filings for the Panchayati Raj elections continued, with BJP-supported candidates filing papers for key wards amid an ongoing campaign push.
Zila Parishad member Thakur Das filed his nomination from Vashisht Ward, while Jindu Thakur also entered the electoral fray from Katrain Ward on the second day of nominations. Both candidates, backed by the BJP, have now begun intensive campaigning in rural areas along with their supporters.
The developments come as all four Zila Parishad seats in the Manali constituency see active political engagement. While the BJP has fielded candidates across seats, the Congress has yet to announce its nominees, further shaping the electoral contest.
After filing their nominations, the candidates expressed gratitude to the party leadership for their trust. They said they are familiar with local issues and pledged to address sanitation and waste management concerns, while also assuring they would work to meet public expectations.
Former BJP minister Govind Singh Thakur said the party has fielded candidates for all four Zila Parishad seats in the constituency and expressed confidence in a strong electoral performance. He identified Thakur Das and Jindu Thakur as BJP-supported candidates and said the party is well-positioned in the district-level elections.
He further claimed that Congress candidates would not receive public support, alleging dissatisfaction with the state government’s policies and unfulfilled commitments led by the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh.
