Srinagar, May 6
An 83-year-old tourist from the United States died in Srinagar on Wednesday after he fell ill during his stay on a houseboat at Dal Lake. The tourist, identified as John David Anderson, was visiting Kashmir with his wife when the incident occurred in the middle of the night.
According to officials, Anderson complained of uneasiness late at night while staying on the houseboat. His condition prompted immediate concern, following which he was rushed to a nearby private hospital.
Doctors at the hospital declared him dead on arrival. His wife, Judith Anne McCarthy, was accompanying him on the trip to Kashmir.
Police officials said they have taken cognizance of the incident and initiated standard legal procedures. Further investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of death.
Authorities are expected to complete medical and legal formalities to establish the cause of death. Further updates will depend on the findings of the ongoing investigation.
