Srinagar, May 1

The body of a four-year-old boy, who slipped into a fast-flowing stream in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district earlier this week, was recovered on Friday after a six-day search operation, officials said.

The child, identified as Mohammad Hanzala, was a resident of Tiken village in Pulwama. He had accidentally fallen into the Rambiara stream near Dubjan Bridge on Sunday and was swept away by strong currents.

Rescue teams were deployed soon after the incident and conducted continuous search operations in the area. However, the boy could not be traced in the initial days despite sustained efforts by authorities and local volunteers.

Officials said the body was eventually located in the neighboring Shopian district on the sixth day of the operation.

The incident has highlighted the dangers posed by fast-moving water bodies in the region, particularly during this time of the year, and underscores the need for increased caution near streams and rivers.
