Shimla, April 30
Light to moderate rainfall was recorded across several parts of Himachal Pradesh over the past 24 hours, with the Shimla Meteorological Center forecasting a wet spell in the state till May 5. The weather activity included thunderstorms and lightning in some areas, with further rain expected as a western disturbance approaches.
According to the MeT office, Sarahan in Shimla district recorded the highest rainfall at 25.5 mm, followed by Manali with 15 mm and Jubberhatti with 5.8 mm. Other areas, including Kangra, Kasauli, Mandi, Guler, Bhuntar, Pachhad, Sundernagar, Shimla, Solan, and Kalpa, also received light showers. Thunderstorms and lightning were reported in Kangra and Murari Devi.
The department has issued a yellow warning for May 3 for the districts of Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, and Shimla, cautioning of thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching speeds between 30 and 50 kmph Officials said the conditions are linked to a fresh western disturbance expected to affect the western Himalayan region from May 2, which is likely to bring light rainfall across low, mid, and high hill regions.
Temperature variations were observed across the state, with Kukumseri recording the lowest minimum temperature at 5.6 degrees Celsius, while Una registered the highest daytime temperature at 35.8 degrees Celsius.
Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious during thunderstorm and gusty wind events as the wet spell continues in the coming days.
