IAF officer Bhupendra Singh Kanwar promoted to Air Vice Marshal, brings pride to Himachal

Hamirpur, April 29

Indian Air Force officer Bhupendra Singh Kanwar has been promoted to the rank of Air Vice Marshal, drawing widespread appreciation in Himachal Pradesh’s Bamsan area. A native of Doh village in Hamirpur district, he is the first alumnus of Sainik School Sujanpur Tihra to achieve this position.

After completing 34 years of service, Kanwar assumed charge as Assistant Chief of Air Staff (Personnel and Civilians) on April 13. Residents said his elevation has brought pride to Hamirpur and the state, highlighting his dedication and professional excellence.

Commissioned into the Flying Navigation Branch in 1991, Kanwar has logged more than 4,000 flying hours on multiple aircraft and held several key operational and instructional roles. He has also commanded an operational air defence base and served in leadership capacities with the National Cadet Corps.

Kanwar’s service record includes contributions to training systems and personnel management within the Air Force. He has been awarded the Vishisht Seva Medal, along with other commendations, for his distinguished service.

His elevation is seen as a significant achievement for the region and is expected to inspire aspiring defense personnel from Himachal Pradesh.
