Dharamsala, April 29
Kangra police in Himachal Pradesh have arrested four individuals and seized 4.04 kilograms of charas after intercepting a car during a patrol operation. The arrests were made following a tip-off, and subsequent investigation revealed links to a larger drug trafficking network operating in the region.
According to police officials, a team on routine patrol acted on specific information and stopped an Alto K10 vehicle in the Panchrukhi area on Monday. During a search of the vehicle, officers recovered 4.04 kilograms of charas.
Two occupants of the vehicle, identified as Gopal, 24, a resident of Khunn village, and Surendra Kumar, 37, from Dagut village in Kullu district, were taken into custody. Both were booked under Sections 20and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
During the course of the investigation, police found that the accused were allegedly transporting the contraband as part of a larger trafficking network. The consignment was reportedly meant for two alleged key operators, Kamaljeet Singh, also known as Kaku, 39, and Sangam Sharma, alias Golu, 26, both residents of Palampur in Kangra district.
Acting swiftly on these leads, police teams carried out multiple raids and apprehended the two alleged main operators within 18 hours on Tuesday.
Officials said further investigation is underway to identify other links in the network and to determine the full extent of the drug trafficking operation.
