Dubai, April 15

Iran’s joint military command warned it may block Gulf trade unless the United States lifts its blockade of Iranian ports, escalating tensions in the region.

In a Wednesday interview, US President Donald Trump stated the war in Iran was “very close to over.” Meanwhile, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced that Washington is preparing secondary sanctions on financial institutions that continue business with Iran, describing the measure as the “financial equivalent” of the bombing campaign.

Regional officials report progress by mediators working to extend the US-Iran ceasefire, with further negotiations expected soon. However, a senior US official stated that Washington has not formally agreed to an extension. A Pakistani delegation has arrived in Tehran to support ongoing diplomatic efforts.

Israel continues aerial and ground operations against Hezbollah in Lebanon, following the first direct talks between the two sides in decades.

Iran’s warning underscores the potential economic impact of the standoff, as Gulf trade routes may be disrupted. The coming days will be critical as diplomatic efforts continue and regional powers prepare for possible escalation.
