Caretaker booked for murdering employer in Rajpura, CCTV footage reveals incident

A caretaker has been booked for allegedly murdering her elderly employer in Rajpura after CCTV footage reportedly exposed the crime.  The Police has registered an FIR under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) following the suspicious death of Manjit Kaur.

According to the complaint filed by Parminder Kaur, a resident of Gaddo Majra village, her mother-in-law Manjit Kaur lived alone in a separate house adjacent to the complainant’s residence. To assist with her care, Sunita Kaur, a resident of the same village, was hired as a caretaker in the first week of June on a monthly salary of ₹15,000 and was also paid an advance of ₹50,000.

On the night of July 22, at around 10.15 pm, Sunita Kaur informed the complainant that Manjit Kaur was not responding. When family members reached the house, they found the elderly woman lying motionless on her bed. Neighbours confirmed that she had died.

The case took a dramatic turn after Jaswinder Singh, the victim’s elder son, returned from abroad and reviewed CCTV footage installed at the house.  The police said the footage allegedly showed Sunita Kaur intentionally killing Manjit Kaur inside the house.

During the investigation, police found that the accused had allegedly become frustrated as the elderly woman, due to age and illness, often required extensive care. Investigators also said the caretaker was unable to leave the job after receiving the ₹50,000 advance payment. Police suspect the alleged resentment led to the crime. Further investigation is underway.
