Jammu, April 13

Officials in Kishtwar district, Jammu and Kashmir, have completed preparations for the annual Machail Mata Yatra, which starts on April 14. They will introduce RFID cards for pilgrims, build new bridges, improve roads, enhance security, ensure a steady power supply, set up medical teams, and improve mobile connectivity along the route.

Officials noted that these measures were prioritized after last year’s cloudburst in Chisoti village, which resulted in 63 fatalities and about 30 missing persons. The disaster damaged infrastructure and disrupted shrine access, leading to a comprehensive review and facility upgrades for this year’s pilgrimage.

Deputy Commissioner Pankaj Kumar Sharma and Senior Superintendent of Police Naresh Singh recently checked the arrangements in Paddar, visiting the Gulabgarh base camp and Machail. Sharma told departments to make sure water, electricity, sanitation, and healthcare are available during the Yatra. The administration will give RFID cards to all pilgrims, and police will add more staff, set up surveillance systems, and place checkpoints to manage crowds and keep everyone safe.

The Border Roads Organization will construct a temporary Bailey bridge at Chisoti, with a permanent structure planned for the future. Road projects, including the Atholi-Pallali road and Massu bridge, are being expedited. The Public Works Department has been instructed to complete projects at Machail, including the Yatri Bhawan and Tehsil Office, and to implement efficient queue management systems.

To prepare for emergencies, health teams with important diagnostic tools and life-saving medicines, along with ambulances, will be stationed at Gulabgarh and Machail. Jammu Power Distribution Corporation Limited will provide steady electricity with backup generators, and telecom companies are working to improve mobile network coverage along the route. These steps aim to avoid last year’s problems and ensure the Machail Mata Yatra is a success.
