Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav on Monday said that Punjab Police has busted a suspected ISI-backed terror module, arresting three accused and recovering two hand grenades and a foreign-made Glock pistol in a major counter-intelligence operation. Sharing details, he further said that the operation was carried out by Counter Intelligence Punjab and the module was allegedly being run by Pakistan-based operatives with cross-border links. According to the police, the two grenades recovered during the operation bore markings of the Pakistan Ordnance Factory (POF), a detail investigators say points to suspected Pakistani involvement.
One of the three accused was arrested in Ahmedabad during a joint operation with the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad, while the other arrests were made as part of the wider Punjab-led crackdown. Yadav said preliminary investigations suggest the group was allegedly planning coordinated attacks on police establishments in several states. He said those plans had been disrupted before they could be carried out.
Police have not yet released further details about the suspects, but said the operation had helped prevent what could have been a wider security threat. A case has been registered under the Explosive Substances Act and the Arms Act at the State Special Operation Cell police station in Amritsar. The Punjab DGP said efforts are continuing to trace and arrest other members believed to be linked to the network.
The latest development comes as security agencies remain alert to attempts by cross-border handlers to use local operatives to revive militant activity and target security infrastructure in Punjab and beyond.
