In a tragic incident on Friday, a bus carrying Indian pilgrims from Maharashtra plunged into a fast-flowing river in Nepal, claiming the lives of at least 27 people and leaving 16 others injured. The group, on a 10-day tour of Nepal, was en route from Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh to Kathmandu when the accident took place around noon, according to media reports. A 45-member team from the Nepal Armed Police Force (APF), under the leadership of SSP Madhav Paudel from the APF Disaster Management Training School, carried out the rescue operations along with locals.
According to the Nepal-based news outlet The Rising Nepal. the bus, bearing the Indian registration number UP 53 FT 7623, fell approximately 150 meters from the Prithvi Highway. The bus was en route to Kathmandu from Pokhara when it careened off the road at Aanbookhaireni in Tanahun around 11:30 am on Friday.
