The Supreme Court has ordered that the printing presses of the Punjab Kesari newspaper group must continue to operate without interruption, granting interim relief to the vernacular daily.  A bench headed by Chief Justice Surya Kant took up the matter urgently on Tuesday after the newspaper group said its publications would be affected by a decision of the Punjab State Pollution Control Board to disconnect power supply over alleged violations, according to media reports.

Lawyers for the media group told the court that the action followed reports published by the newspaper that questioned the state government. Taking note of the submissions, the court directed that the printing presses should continue to function. It also ordered that the existing situation at the premises be maintained until further directions.
