Chandigarh, January 7
All government, aided, recognised and private schools in Punjab will remain closed until January 13 because of an intense cold wave sweeping the state, Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains said on Wednesday. In a post on X, Mr Bains said the decision had been taken on the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, citing persistently low temperatures and dense fog across Punjab.
He said the move was aimed at safeguarding the health and safety of students and school staff during the ongoing cold conditions. Schools across the state are expected to reopen on January 14 and resume normal operations.
