The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused the Congress-led government in Himachal Pradesh of pursuing what it called a campaign of political vendetta against its leaders and supporters.

Speaking at a press conference in Shimla, the Leader of the Opposition and former Chief Minister Jairam Thakur alleged that false cases were being registered against BJP legislators and workers since Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu took office.

Thakur claimed that several BJP leaders who had earlier left the Congress were now being “harassed” by the state administration. He cited the example of Hamirpur MLA Ashish Sharma, alleging that seven cases had been filed against members of his family and that they had been summoned repeatedly to police stations over the past 10 days.

Similar allegations were made regarding the families of BJP leaders Rajinder Rana and Sudhir Sharma. Thakur said action was initiated only after they began criticising the Congress government. “When they were with the Congress, there were no issues. The moment they raised questions against the government, cases started being registered,” he said.

The BJP leader also accused some officials of overstepping their authority and violating legal norms. He warned that a future government would be free to take action against those responsible. “There is limited time left. In two years, another government will be in power,” he said.

Thakur also criticised the Congress government’s celebrations marking three years in office, describing them as a public display of internal discord. He said open disagreements between the chief minister and deputy chief minister during the event had exposed divisions within the ruling party.
