Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Tuesday said the state police have intensified their crackdown on Chitta — a street name for heroin — and will soon launch a state-wide ‘Anti-Chitta’ campaign to curb the growing drug menace.
Flagging off 66 hi-tech vehicles for the Himachal Pradesh Police, Sukhu said the ₹18-crore fleet — comprising electric vehicles and interceptors — will be deployed across 10 districts to strengthen road safety, improve traffic management, and enhance law enforcement.
“The government’s vision is to modernise every department. From policing to tourism, we want Himachal Pradesh to adopt global standards and ensure citizen safety through advanced technology,” Chief Minister Sukhu said.
He added that the upgraded vehicles will help regulate traffic, reduce accidents, and save lives in the hill state.
Commenting on the Bijli Mahadev ropeway project, Sukhu said it would have been “better if protests had been raised before trees were felled,” noting that opposition at this stage could lead to unnecessary losses.
The Chief Minister also acknowledged that part of the 2023 Disaster Litigation Fund remains unspent due to pending forest land clearances. He said the government is assessing the situation and will act soon to ensure proper utilisation of funds.
“Modernisation is not a luxury — it’s a necessity for safety, transparency, and development,” Sukhu added.
