A mandatory 15-day educational module on the life and martyrdom of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib will be introduced in all schools across Punjab from November 10. Each day’s morning assembly will feature a 10-12 minute recorded narration about the Ninth Guru’s teachings, sacrifice, and the creation of the Khalsa Panth.

Sharing details, Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains said on Monday that the initiative is part of the Punjab Government’s large-scale commemorations marking the 350th Martyrdom Anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. The programme, he added, aims to educate children about “one of the most defining moments in India’s spiritual and cultural history.”

Colleges, universities, industrial training institutes (ITIs), and polytechnics—both government and private—have been directed to host seminars, exhibitions, and discussions to commemorate the anniversary. “The response from educational institutions has been overwhelmingly positive,” Bains said at a press conference held at Punjab Bhawan, accompanied by Tourism and Cultural Affairs Advisor Deepak Bali.

Highlighting the broader commemorations, Bains said the events will begin on November 4 across all districts, with cultural programmes, interfaith gatherings, and light-and-sound shows illustrating Guru Tegh Bahadur’s life and principles.

The minister also announced four Nagar Kirtans originating from Srinagar, Faridkot, Bathinda, and Gurdaspur, all of which will converge at Sri Anandpur Sahib on November 22. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Jammu & Kashmir leader Omar Abdullah, and Punjab ministers and MLAs will participate, serving as ‘sewadars’ during the processions.

The concluding ceremonies from November 23 to 25 will be held at Sri Anandpur Sahib, the city founded by Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. The three-day event will include an Akhand Path Sahib, Sarb Dharam Sammelan (interfaith conference), exhibitions at Virasat-e-Khalsa, a 500-drone show, and a special session of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha at Bhai Jaita Ji Memorial—marking the first time such a session is held outside the state capital.

To accommodate the expected one crore devotees, the Punjab Government is setting up three ‘Tent Cities’ with a capacity for over 11,000 visitors per day and 106 acres of parking facilities. Free transport services, including e-rickshaws, mini-buses, and buses from every tehsil, will be provided to ensure smooth travel for devotees.

Bains said the state’s goal is to “carry forward the universal message of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji — of faith, sacrifice, and human dignity.” He extended a warm invitation to the Sangat, saying, “This celebration is not only Punjab’s pride but a tribute to humanity’s shared values.”
