The BJP on Thursday strongly objected to Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s absence, accusing him of being in Bihar for political programmes while the state battled a natural calamity on the ninth day of the monsoon session. Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur said, “The state is reeling under a severe disaster and the Chief Minister is missing. Instead of monitoring relief operations here, he is engaged elsewhere. This shows his lack of concern for the people.”

The Himachal Pradesh Assembly witnessed uproar as opposition legislators also raised the issue of heavy rainfall damage in Chamba and other districts. BJP MLAs Hansraj, Janak Raj and D.S. Thakur pressed the government to send legislators to affected areas and demanded suspension of House proceedings to focus on relief and rehabilitation. Bharmaur MLA Janak Raj added that legislators should be among the public during such crises. He urged the government to deploy police and staff engaged in Assembly duties for rescue operations.
