The mpox virus is spreading rapidly in Africa, with outbreaks in the DRC, Uganda, and Kenya. The World Health Organization (WHO) may declare a global health emergency, as according to the Health Site reports.
WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus is considering forming a committee to address the crisis. WHO and Africa CDC are working to prevent further spread, with $10.4 million allocated by the African Union.
Mpox, or monkeypox, causes rashes, fever, and headaches. It spreads through contact with infected individuals and can lead to severe complications. Preventive measures include avoiding contact and vaccination. This year, over 14,250 cases and 450 deaths have been reported, mostly in the DRC.
