Himachal Pradesh Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla on Saturday organised a special prayer ritual at Raj Bhavan in Shimla for peace and relief in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, both of which have been hit hard by recent natural disasters.
The ceremony, held on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, included offerings for the peace of those who lost their lives in the disasters. The Governor also extended greetings to the people of India and Himachal Pradesh for the festival.
The Governor said the recent calamities had caused heavy damage in both states and urged governments to focus on “scientific development.” He cautioned that settling along riverbanks and streams would inevitably lead to loss. During the event, women from various organisations tied rakhi on the governor’s wrist. He also sharply criticised remarks made by MP S.T. Hasan about Himachal and Uttarakhand, calling them a reflection of a “polluted mindset” and saying both states respect all religions and work for the welfare of all.
