The NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar (NISAR) satellite was successfully launched on Wednesday evening from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh, marking a major milestone in space cooperation between India and the United States.
The satellite lifted off aboard the GSLV-F16 rocket at 5:40 pm local time, as confirmed by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on social media platform X.
Developed jointly by ISRO and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), NISAR is an advanced Earth observation satellite designed to track changes in land surfaces, ice sheets, and global ecosystems. The mission is expected to enhance scientific understanding of climate change, natural disasters, and agricultural dynamics.
