Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema on Tuesday held separate meetings with three employee unions, assuring swift action on their long-pending demands. Cheema, who also chairs the Cabinet Sub-Committee for the Resolution of Employee Issues, met representatives of the Unemployed PSTET Pass Art and Craft Sangharsh Union Punjab, the Punjab Water Supply and Sewerage Board Employees Contract Workers and Labour Union, and the PWD Field and Workshop Workers Union Punjab.
During the meeting with the Unemployed PSTET union, Cheema directed the Education Department to organise a joint consultation with all related unions. The aim, he said, is to draft a proposal under a Common Minimum Program, which will be placed before the sub-committee in its next session. He also heard concerns raised by the Sewerage Board Contract Workers and PWD Field Workers unions, reiterating the government’s intent to resolve legitimate demands “without undue delay”.
The meetings were attended by union representatives including Rakesh Kumar, Kirandeep Kaur, and Harbans Singh (Unemployed PSTET); Phuman Singh, Kishore Chand Gaj, and Sukhchain Singh (PWD Workers); and Sher Singh Khanna, Gurvinder Singh Dhaliwal, and Pradeep Singh Chhahar (Sewerage Board Workers).
Cheema said the Punjab government remains committed to “constructive dialogue and timely resolution” of employee concerns.
