Himachal Pradesh is bracing for continued heavy rainfall as the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts persistent showers across the state till July 16. An orange alert has been issued for Sirmaur and Kangra districts, where intense rain could trigger landslides, road blockages, and significantly reduced visibility in hilly areas such as Shimla, Solan, and Sirmaur.
According to the Meteorological Centre in Shimla seven districts — Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Kangra, Mandi, Shimla, and Sirmaur — are expected to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall on 10 July. Light to moderate showers have already been observed in several areas over the past 24 hours.
Weather scientist Sandeep Kumar Sharma confirmed that rain activity is likely to intensify between 11 and 12 July, particularly affecting Mandi, Shimla, and Sirmaur. From 13 to 16 July, the downpour is expected to spread across nine districts, including Kullu and Solan, raising concerns over potential flash floods and landslides.
“Though the monsoon has briefly shifted slightly southward, the rain pattern in Himachal remains strong,” Sharma said, advising residents and tourists to exercise caution.
The govt has warned of travel disruption, urging people to stay indoors during peak rainfall, especially in regions prone to landslides and sudden flooding.
Emergency services are on alert, and the public has been asked to follow official weather updates and avoid venturing into vulnerable zones.
