Unveiling of Virbhadra Singh’s statue postponed due to heavy rains in HP

The unveiling of former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh’s statue, scheduled for 15 July at the historic Ridge Maidan in Shimla, has been postponed due to ongoing monsoon activity in the region. Congress state president , Pratibha Singh, announced the deferment during a tribute event marking Singh’s fourth death anniversary. She said a new date for the ceremony will be decided later.

At the event held at the state Congress office in Shimla, party leaders and supporters paid homage to Singh and recalled his extensive contributions to the state’s development. Known as the architect of modern Himachal Pradesh, Singh served multiple terms as chief minister and left a lasting legacy through infrastructure and welfare projects across the state.

“Though he is no longer physically among us, Virbhadra Singh lives in the hearts of the people,” said Pratibha Singh, adding that the state continues to benefit from his vision and leadership.

She also expressed concern over heavy damage caused by the monsoon in districts like Mandi, Seraj, Karsog, and Dharampur, noting that the Congress government is focused on road restoration and providing aid to affected residents.

Responding to comments made by BJP MP Kangana Ranaut, Pratibha Singh called them “absurd and unfortunate.” Reacting to Ranaut’s claim that she lacks funds to assist flood victims, Singh remarked, “Every MP has access to ₹5 crore in funds. If she says she doesn’t have it, it’s laughable.”
