Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president and former Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal was detained by Punjab Police on Tuesday as he was on his way to meet party workers at Gurdwara Amb Sahib in Mohali. Sukhbir was detained ahead of senior SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia’s scheduled court appearance in Mohali. Large numbers of Akali workers had begun assembling at the gurdwara in a show of support before the hearing.
