Shaktikanta Das has taken charge as Principal Secretary-2 to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Monday. His appointment, approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, will be tied to the Prime Minister’s tenure or until further orders.
The former Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor, Das has stepped down in December after a six-year tenure. Das had previously served as economic affairs secretary before being appointed RBI Governor in 2018 following Urjit Patel’s sudden resignation. Das holds a master’s degree in history from St Stephen’s College and a postgraduate degree in public administration from the University of Birmingham
