The BJP put on a formidable display of strength at Delhi’s historic Ramlila Maidan as Rekha Gupta was sworn in as Chief Minister along with six cabinet ministers. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), returning to power in the capital after 27 years, ensured the presence of its top brass of the party and NDA at the ceremony. Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the attendees, joined by senior party figures, including Union Ministers Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, JP Nadda, and Dharmendra Pradhan. A host of BJP-led state leaders also marked their presence, such as Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Saini, Rajasthan’s Bhajan Lal Sharma, Maharashtra’s Devendra Fadnavis, Meghalaya’s Conrad Sangma, Andhra Pradesh’s Chandrababu Naidu, and Goa’s Pramod Sawant.
Deputy Chief Ministers Ajit Pawar and Eknath Shinde (Maharashtra), Pawan Kalyan (Andhra Pradesh), Vijay Kumar Sinha (Bihar), and Prem Chand Bairwa (Rajasthan) were also in attendance.
Rekha Gupta becomes Delhi’s fourth woman Chief Minister, following Sushma Swaraj, Sheila Dikshit, and Atishi. Gupta, pledged to fulfill all commitments made to voters during the campaign. Speaking to the media after taking the oath, she expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying, “We will fulfill all the commitments made to the people of Delhi during the campaign. I am feeling so happy, and I am thankful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”
Modi took to X (formerly Twitter) to congratulate Gupta, praising her journey from student activism to the chief ministership. “Congratulations to Rekha Gupta Ji on taking oath as Delhi’s Chief Minister. She has risen from the grassroots, being active in campus politics, state organisation, municipal administration, and now as an MLA and Chief Minister. I am confident she will work for Delhi’s development with full vigour. My best wishes to her for a fruitful tenure,” he wrote.
The Prime Minister also extended congratulations to all six newly inducted cabinet ministers, acknowledging their blend of experience and energy. “Congratulations to Shri Parvesh Sahib Singh Ji, Shri Ashish Sood Ji, Sardar Manjinder Singh Sirsa Ji, Shri Ravinder Indraj Singh Ji, Shri Kapil Mishra Ji, and Shri Pankaj Kumar Singh Ji on taking oath as Ministers in the Delhi Government. This team beautifully mixes vigour and experience and will surely ensure good governance for Delhi. Best wishes to them,” he posted.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also sent their best wishes, expressing confidence in Gupta’s leadership. Gadkari remarked that under Modi’s guidance, Delhi would see new dimensions of development, while Dhami stated that her tenure would help restore the capital’s lost glory.
Gupta’s appointment marks a strategic shift for the BJP in Delhi as the party aims to strengthen its presence in the national capital. Her tenure is expected to focus on urban infrastructure, governance reforms, and party consolidation ahead of upcoming elections.
