How did Amit Shah counter Opposition’s claims on Waqf report?

The report on the Joint Committee on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill was tabled in the Lok Sabha on Thursday, with Home Minister Amit Shah stating that the BJP has no objection to including the Opposition’s dissent notes without redaction. He urged the Speaker to decide as per parliamentary procedures. The Opposition has alleged that its dissenting views were omitted from the report, a claim strongly denied by the government. Addressing the Lok Sabha, Shah said, “Some members of the Opposition have raised concerns that their views have not been included completely (in the Waqf JPC report). I want to say on behalf of my party that considering the concerns of the Opposition, anything may be added, my party has no objection.”

In the Rajya Sabha, BJP national president and Union Minister J P Nadda accused the Opposition of politicising the issue rather than engaging in discussion. “The Parliamentary Affairs Minister has told the House that nothing has been removed from the report. Still, the Opposition has behaved irresponsibly. This is the politics of appeasement,” he said, adding that the Congress and its allies were strengthening forces seeking to divide the country.
