India’s Ministry of Defence (MoD) has signed a Rs 2,960 crore contract with Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) to supply Medium-Range Surface-to-Air Missiles (MRSAM) for the Indian Navy. The agreement, finalized on Thursday in New Delhi, was signed in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh. The MRSAM system, which is already standard on multiple Indian Naval Ships, will also be integrated into future platforms. In line with the government’s ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative, the missiles will feature predominantly indigenous components under the ‘Buy (Indian)’ category. The contract is expected to generate around 3.5 lakh mandays of employment in the defense sector, including jobs in micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
