Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, launched the Bharat Cleantech Manufacturing Platform on Friday at the Bharat Climate Forum 2025, aimed at strengthening India’s cleantech value chains in solar, wind, hydrogen, and battery storage. Goyal emphasized the need for India’s clean energy sector to become self-sustaining and independent of government subsidies and Product Linked Incentives (PLIs). He noted that while PLIs can kickstart the sector, long-term growth relies on innovation and scale.

The platform is designed to foster collaboration among Indian firms, providing a space for co-innovation, financing, and resource sharing. Goyal stated that this initiative would position India as a global leader in sustainability and cleantech.

The Minister also discussed India’s progress towards meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s target of 500 Gigawatts of clean energy by 2030. He highlighted India’s success in exceeding Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement, noting that India reached its 2022 renewable energy target eight years ahead of schedule.

Goyal also credited Gujarat’s early adoption of solar power and praised the Prime Minister’s transparency and competitive auctions, which contributed to the affordability of solar energy in the country. He concluded by stressing the government’s focus on the “3S” approach: speed, scale, and skill in renewable energy development.
