Union Home Minister Amit Shah will chair a regional conference on “Drug Trafficking and National Security” in New Delhi on Saturday, focusing on eight northern states and Union Territories. Organized by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), the event will address national security concerns linked to drug trafficking. Shah will launch the Drug Disposal Fortnight, inaugurate an NCB office in Bhopal, and expand the MANAS-2 helpline nationwide.
The conference will review the effectiveness of state anti-drug initiatives, forensic labs, and real-time data sharing via the MANAS portal. It will assess progress under the Narcotics Coordination Mechanism (NCORD) and emphasize a Whole-of-Government approach for a drug-free India by 2047. A significant agenda includes disposing of 44,792 kilograms of narcotics valued at ₹2,411 crore during the fortnight.
Senior officials, governors, and chief ministers of eight states will participate. The Ministry of Home Affairs, under PM Narendra Modi’s Zero Tolerance Policy on drugs, is spearheading the efforts with institutional reforms and public awareness campaigns.
