In a reversal of earlier claims, Canadian officials have confirmed that all four Indian nationals accused in the murder of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar remain in custody, said the media reports. The British Columbia Prosecution Service (BCPS) clarified the matter following reports suggesting the accused had been released on bail. “It is not true that the four accused have been released on bail. All four accused were detained, and they continue to remain in custody,” said Ann Seymour, Acting Communications Counsel for the BC Prosecution Service, while responding to the news outlet WION query.
The case will see its next court proceedings with a pre-trial conference on February 11, followed by another appearance on February 12. Trial dates have yet to be announced. The WION reported that while the provincial court file number 256562-2C has been terminated, the case now operates under file number 86086-1 at the New Westminster Law Courts (Supreme Court). The BC Prosecution Service, responsible for prosecuting criminal offences under the Criminal Code of Canada, reiterated its commitment to justice in the high-profile case.
