Mandi MP seeks early completion of pending projects; calls for strict action against drug trafficking

Manali, September 7

Around 80 per cent of development works funded through the MP Local Area Development Scheme have been completed in Kullu district, officials informed Mandi MP Kangana Ranaut during a meeting of the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) at Dhalpur here on Monday.

Chairing the meeting, Ranaut reviewed the progress of centrally sponsored schemes and directed the administration to complete the remaining works at the earliest so that other projects could be taken up in the district.

She expressed satisfaction with the progress, but said the working style of some functionaries was unsatisfactory and called for improvement. She added that she was monitoring the implementation of the Centre’s schemes and seeking regular feedback on their progress.

The growing drug menace and sale of narcotics in Kullu also came up for discussion. Ranaut directed the police to take stringent action against those involved in the illegal trade.

Expressing concern over the alleged sale of drugs through small wooden kiosks at various places, the MP said the trend was putting the younger generation at risk. She called for closer coordination with the state government to strengthen the legal framework.

“Although arrests are being made in several cases, some accused are released due to gaps in existing laws, enabling them to return to the illegal trade,” she added.

Ranaut also urged the police to recommend measures to the state government for stricter provisions to curb drug abuse and trafficking.
