Patiala, July 28
Two young men died after allegedly inhaling toxic gas while cleaning a sewer in the Vikas Nagar locality of Tripuri area in Patiala, officials and family members said.
The deceased were identified as Bhola and Sunny, both residents of Deep Singh Nagar. According to available information, the two had been hired by a private individual to clean a sewer when they were overcome by poisonous gas and lost consciousness during the operation.
They were immediately rushed to Rajindra Hospital in Patiala for treatment. However, doctors declared both of them dead on arrival.
Authorities clarified that the victims were not employees of the Municipal Corporation. They had reportedly been engaged privately for the sewer-cleaning work.
According to the family members of the deceased, Bhola had taken Sunny along with him for the cleaning job, and the fatal incident occurred while they were carrying out the work.
The bodies have been kept in the mortuary of Rajindra Hospital. Further legal proceedings will be carried out after the post-mortem examination.
