Ferozepur, June 1
A shopkeeper was shot dead by two unidentified attackers in Makhu town of Punjab’s Ferozepur district on Monday, police said.
The deceased was identified as Gurcharan Singh Gaba, who owned a general store in the town’s main market area.
According to police, the assailants arrived on a motorcycle and opened fire at Gaba. Multiple rounds were allegedly fired before the attackers fled the scene, leaving the market area in panic.
Local residents and bystanders rushed the injured shopkeeper to a nearby hospital. However, doctors declared him dead shortly after he was brought in for treatment.
Senior police officials reached the spot soon after the incident and began an investigation. Police teams are examining CCTV footage from the area and collecting evidence to determine the motive behind the murder.
Officials said further investigation is underway and efforts are being made to identify and trace the attackers.
The incident has raised concerns among traders and residents in the busy market area as police continue their probe into the killing.
