Tejas Shirse becomes first Indian to reach commonwealth games 110m hurdles final

National record holder Tejas Shirse created history on Monday by becoming the first Indian to qualify for the men’s 110m hurdles final at the Commonwealth Games.

The 24-year-old athlete secured his place in the final after finishing third in Heat 1 with a time of 13.76 seconds, placing sixth overall across all heats.

England’s Samuel Bennett topped Heat 1 with a time of 13.20 seconds.

According to the competition rules, the top three finishers in each heat, along with the next two fastest athletes overall, advanced to the final, which is scheduled to be held later in the day.

Shirse has been in impressive form this season. He clocked a personal and national record of 13.27 seconds during the Indian Athletics Series 9 held in Ludhiana last month, which remains his season’s best performance.

With his qualification, Shirse has become the first Indian athlete to reach the men’s 110m hurdles final at the Commonwealth Games, marking a significant milestone for Indian athletics.
