The Himachal Pradesh government has approved the master plan for a new environmentally friendly township to be developed in Jathiya Devi, a location on the outskirts of Shimla.
The development, spread over 135 acres, will be undertaken by the Himachal Pradesh Housing and Urban Development Authority (HIMUDA). The first phase includes the construction of 119 residential flats in configurations of 1BHK, 2BHK, and 3BHK. Villas and eco-resorts will also be built as part of the project.
Rajesh Dharmani, Minister for Technical Education and Urban and Rural Planning, said the decision was taken during HIMUDA’s 65th Board of Directors meeting held at the state Secretariat. “We have prepared a detailed master plan outlining the township’s infrastructure and amenities,” he said.
Initially, the project was awaiting ₹500 crore funding from the central government. However, due to delays, HIMUDA has decided to commence construction using land already in its possession.
The township is being designed as a sustainable community, with plans to install solar panels to harness green energy.
The Board also approved the construction of access roads for the Jathiya Devi project. Additional discussions included proposals for new housing projects and the purchase of land across different regions of the state. A separate approval was granted to construct 16 new housing units in Dharamshala.
The government says the new township will not only help ease pressure on Shimla city but also serve as a model for green urban development in the region.
