Harjinder Singh Dhami, president of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbhandak Committee (SGPC), resigned on “moral ground” on Monday. His decision follows an open disagreement between Dhami and Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh over the controversial removal of Giani Harpreet Singh as Jathedar of Takht Damdama Sahib. In a statement regarding his resignation, Dhami emphasized that his decision was made out of respect for Giani Raghbir Singh, the Jathedar of the Sri Akal Takht Sahib. Furthermore, Dhami announced his withdrawal from the seven-member committee established by the Akal Takht Jathedar on December 2, 2024, aimed at reorganizing the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD).
