Patiala, June 17

Lakhbir Singh, considered a prominent face of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in rural Patiala for many years, formally joined Akali Dal Waris Punjab De on Wednesday.

The induction was facilitated by party leader and MLA Manpreet Singh Iyali and Bapu Tarsem Singh, father of jailed MP Amritpal Singh.

Welcoming Singh into the party, Iyali said the veteran leader brought extensive political experience and had made significant contributions during his tenure in the Shiromani Akali Dal.

“Lakhbir Singh has a long political career and has worked extensively for the Shiromani Akali Dal. We will utilise his experience and services for the benefit of the party in the future,” Iyali said.

He added that a steady stream of new members joining the party was strengthening its organisational base.

“The continuous joining of leaders and workers is giving our party considerable strength. People want the emergence of a Panthic regional political force,” he said.

Responding to a question about whether the coordination committee formed with Akali Dal Punar Surjeet could be revived, Iyali said Panthic unity remained possible if leaders were willing to rise above personal ambitions.

“Anything is possible if those working for Panthic unity place collective interests above personal gains,” he said.

On speculation regarding the possible induction of Adesh Partap Kairon and Professor Prem Singh Chandumajra into the party, Iyali said no such discussions were currently underway.

Addressing questions about recent directives issued by Sri Akal Takht Sahib concerning Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Iyali reiterated his respect for the highest temporal seat of the Sikhs.

“There is no doubt about it. We have always accepted the authority of Sri Akal Takht Sahib and will continue to do so,” he said.

Referring to an alleged video involving the Chief Minister mentioned by the Akal Takht Jathedar, Iyali said that if the video proved genuine, it would be a deeply unfortunate matter.

“If the video is authentic, nothing could be more regrettable. The truth should come before the people,” he added.
