Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Thursday expressed deep grief over the death of popular Punjabi singer Rajvir Jawanda, who passed away at a private hospital in Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar (Mohali) following a road accident a few days ago. The Punjab Chief Minister visited the singer’s residence in Jagraon, Ludhiana district, to offer his condolences to the bereaved family. Mann described the 35-year-old artist’s death as a “colossal loss to the world of art, literature and culture in Punjab’s contemporary history.”
“Rajvir Jawanda departed in the prime of his youth. The void created by his passing will not be easy to fill,” the Chief Minister said, recalling the singer’s popularity and contribution to Punjabi music. Chief Minister Mann said Jawanda’s performances “ruled the hearts of millions of Punjabis” and marked the end of “an era of Punjabi singing.” He praised the singer’s role in promoting Punjabi art, language and identity, describing him as a “cultural ambassador and ardent lover of Punjabiat.”
Offering his sympathies to the family, Mann prayed for peace to the departed soul and strength to the singer’s relatives, friends and fans. He said Jawanda’s “remarkable songs will live on in the hearts of millions” and inspire future generations of Punjabi artists. Jawanda was critically injured in an accident in Solan district, Himachal Pradesh on September 27 and succumbed to his injuries after remaining on ventilator support for several days.
