Chandigarh, May 19

A 29-year-old Punjabi singer from Ludhiana who had been missing since May 13 was found dead in a canal in Ludhiana district, police said on Tuesday. Two people, including the father of the prime accused, have been arrested in connection with the case, while the main suspect is believed to have fled to Canada.

The deceased was identified as Inder Kaur, also known as Yashinder Kaur, a resident of Jamalpur in Ludhiana.

According to police, Kaur had left her house in her car on May 13 and did not return. Her family later filed a complaint and accused Sukhwinder Singh, a resident of Moga, of abducting her.

Family members alleged that Sukhwinder had been pressuring Kaur to marry him, even though he was already married. Police suspect that the singer knew the accused personally.

Investigators said Kaur’s car was recovered from the Neelon canal on Sunday, while her body was found a day later.

Police have arrested Sukhwinder’s father, Pritam Singh, along with his associate Karamjit Singh in connection with the case. Officials said the prime accused allegedly fled to Canada after orchestrating the crime.

The body has been sent to Samrala Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination. Further investigation is underway to establish the exact sequence of events and the possible motive behind the suspected murder.

The incident has triggered concern among local residents and the Punjabi music community. Police said more arrests and legal action may follow as the investigation progresses.
