Chandigarh, January 21
The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has arrested Palwinder Singh, a building inspector with the Municipal Corporation of Bathinda, and architect Honey Munjal for allegedly accepting a ₹30,000 bribe. An official spokesperson said the arrests followed a complaint by Sandeep Singh, a resident of Burj Mehma village in Bathinda district. Sandeep alleged that Palwinder Singh demanded ₹30,000 per file through Munjal for approving plans for a new colony in Bathinda. The total bribe demanded was ₹80,000 for three files, with threats to reject the applications if the payment was not made.
Acting on the complaint, a VB team from Bathinda conducted a preliminary inquiry and laid a trap. Munjal was caught accepting ₹30,000 in the presence of two official witnesses. Palwinder Singh was arrested shortly afterward. A case has been registered against the duo under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the VB police station in the Bathinda range. Further investigation is underway.
