The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) arrested Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Arjan Singh from the Anti-Human Trafficking wing in Amritsar on Thursday for allegedly accepting a Rs 20,000 bribe. According to an official spokesperson, the arrest followed a complaint by Rohit, a resident of Mohalla Islamabad in Amritsar. Rohit alleged that Singh demanded a bribe to submit a favorable report in a case involving his efforts to lodge an FIR against an immigration agent.
After a preliminary inquiry, the VB laid a trap and caught Singh red-handed while accepting the bribe in the presence of official witnesses. A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered at the VB Police Station in Amritsar range. The accused will be presented before a competent court on Friday. Further investigations are underway, the spokesperson added.
