Punjab Police bring back fugitive gangster Joban Billa from Indonesia

Chandigarh, July 25

A fugitive gangster wanted in four murder cases in Punjab has been deported from Indonesia and brought back to India after what Punjab Police described as a six-month international operation involving Indian and overseas agencies. In his post on X, Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said Jobanjit Singh, also known as Joban Billa, was deported from Jakarta following coordinated efforts by the Punjab Police’s Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF), OFTEC Punjab and central agencies.

The Police said the accused had been evading arrest by moving across multiple countries while facing several serious criminal cases in Punjab. Besides four murder cases, he is also wanted in cases related to attempted murder, offences under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and the Arms Act.

According to the police, the deportation concludes Operation Nomad Hunt, a six-month intelligence-led operation that involved surveillance, intelligence gathering and cooperation between national and international law enforcement agencies. Officials described the extradition as a significant step in Punjab Police’s efforts to track down fugitives operating from overseas and dismantle transnational organised crime networks.
