The Punjab government is considering the transfer of staff posted in Block Samiti offices, Rural Development and Panchayat Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond told the Punjab Vidhan Sabha on Tuesday. Responding to a query from MLA Jangi Lal Mahajan, who raised concerns about the lack of staff transfers leading to bribery, Sond assured the House that a reshuffle of employees who have remained in the same position for an extended period is under consideration.
He clarified that the competent appointment and disciplinary authority for block samiti employees lies with the respective Samitis. However, the state government handles the transfers of key officials, including Superintendent Grade-II, Tax Collectors, Panchayat Secretaries, and Panchayat Officers, at the Directorate of Rural Development and Panchayats level. Additionally, inter-district transfers of clerks, peons, and drivers are decided by the state government, while the transfer of remaining employees falls under the jurisdiction of their respective district authorities.
