In a decisive move reflecting the gravity of the current security scenario, the Punjab government has suspended all leaves for its officers and barred them from leaving their respective posts without direct clearance from the state’s top bureaucrat. Citing the need for round-the-clock readiness of the state’s emergency response system, the government on Friday announced that no officer shall proceed on leave of any kind, nor be absent from their designated station, without prior explicit approval from the Chief Secretary of Punjab.
“All previously sanctioned leaves now stand cancelled,” said a senior official. “These instructions are to be implemented with immediate effect, and strict compliance is expected.” The directive, which comes in the wake of heightened security concerns in northern India, leaves no room for ambiguity. The government has warned that any deviation from the order will invite disciplinary action under applicable service rules.
Officials across the state have been asked to remain vigilant, accessible, and fully prepared to coordinate response measures at short notice.
