New Delhi, June 10
President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi after he became India’s longest continuously serving democratically elected prime minister describing the achievement as a reflection of the public’s enduring faith in his leadership. In a message posted on social media on Wednesday, President Murmu said the milestone highlighted the trust and confidence that Indians have repeatedly placed in Modi since he first took office in May 2014.
Modi has now surpassed the record of 4,398 consecutive days in office previously held by India’s first prime minister, Jawaharlal Nehru. The President said Modi’s tenure had been marked by significant progress in governance, economic resilience and social transformation. She added that a range of welfare programmes introduced during his time in office had helped expand access to development benefits, particularly for people at the grassroots level.
President Murmu said the government’s focus on inclusive development reflected the principle of Antyodaya, which seeks to ensure that the benefits of growth reach the most disadvantaged sections of society.
Among the initiatives she highlighted were PM-JANMAN and the Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan, both aimed at improving the lives of tribal communities.
Describing Modi’s political journey as inspiring, the President said it continued to strengthen confidence in India’s democratic traditions. She also expressed hope that he would continue to guide the country towards the goals of a self-reliant and developed India.
The congratulatory message comes as political leaders and international figures mark Modi’s record-breaking tenure as prime minister.
