Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday highlighted the welfare initiatives launched during his years in office, saying the government’s focus has remained on improving the lives of poor and marginalised communities. Marking 12 years of his government’s welfare programmes and two years of his third term in office, Modi said India had undergone significant changes, with social welfare and inclusion at the centre of many policy decisions.

In a message posted on social media, the prime minister pointed to schemes such as Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), Swachh Bharat Mission, PM Awas Yojana and Ayushman Bharat. He said these initiatives were designed to provide greater dignity, access to services and opportunities for millions of people.

Modi said his government had been guided by the principle of “Antyodaya” — reaching the last person in society and ensuring that the benefits of development reach those who had remained on the margins for decades.

The Prime Minister said that the digital platforms and direct transfers had helped reduce leakages, improve transparency and ensure assistance reaches beneficiaries more efficiently. According to the prime minister, the use of technology has strengthened trust in governance and helped transform welfare delivery into a broader effort aimed at empowering citizens.Modi began his first term as prime minister in May 2014 and returned to office in 2019 before securing a third consecutive term following the 2024 general election. He was sworn in for his latest term on June 9, 2024.
