Hamirpur, June 12

The BBMB officials have issued an alert that water discharge from the Pandoh Dam in Mandi district may increase on Friday night due to rising inflows from snowmelt and rainfall in the river Beas catchment. The sudden release could lead to a rise in water levels downstream, prompting officials to urge residents living near the river to stay cautious, especially during night hours.

People in low-lying areas and those working close to the river have been advised to remain vigilant and avoid unnecessary movement near the Beas riverbanks. “Do not venture near the riverbanks or into the riverbed for any activity, including sightseeing or photography,” an official spokesperson said, stressing the need for public safety.

The advisory also asked contractors and workers operating machinery in the riverbed to move equipment to higher ground to prevent damage.

The Pandoh Dam release affects several districts, including Mandi, Kangra, Hamirpur and Kullu, where water levels can rise quickly during increased discharge.

Officials said the Bhakra Beas Management Board is closely monitoring the situation and further updates will be issued if discharge levels increase.
