Production to highlight women’s safety, de-addiction, and mental health
Zirakpur: More than 108 women, ranging from a six-month-old baby to an 83-year-old grandmother, will come together to perform different characters from the Ramayana during the fifth Women’s Ramlila at Chinar Homes, Peer Muchalla, from October 11 to 20.
Organised by Jadon Se Judo, the event will be inaugurated by Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini. The organisers unveiled the official poster at the Chandigarh Press Club.
The 10-day production will feature women from different professions and age groups, including students, teachers, homemakers, chartered accountants, lawyers, IT professionals, businesswomen, real estate professionals and retirees. Women with disabilities and acid-attack survivors will also be given opportunities to participate, the organisers said.
The Ramlila, which began in 2022, will incorporate artificial intelligence, digital technology, advanced lighting, sound and special effects as part of this year’s presentation. The organisers said the aim was to retain the traditional narrative while presenting it in a format that will engage younger audiences.
The production will also carry messages on issues including mental health, women’s safety, de-addiction and social awareness alongside the traditional themes of the Ramayana.
To make the event more accessible, sign-language experts will help deaf spectators follow the dialogues and proceedings.
Ekta Nagpal, president of Jadon Se Judo and Punjab BJP State Secretary, said the initiative was intended to provide a platform for women to showcase their talent, confidence, values and leadership abilities.
She said the objective was to help the younger generation embrace technology while remaining connected with cultural and family values.
The organisers said the Ramlila would be live streamed through various digital and television networks, including Jio, Airtel, Tata, Google TV, OTT Premium Live, DEN TV, Dish Watcho, Ditto TV and Fastway Cables. They estimated that the production could potentially reach 40–50 crore viewers.
The performances will be held daily from 8 pm to 11 pm, with the organisers expecting thousands of spectators.
